MED SCREENING MISSION #12

Hi All!

It seems likes itÕs been forever since the last time I sent one of these out, but as our time winds down and we transition more of the city to the Iraqi Army, our role becomes more diminished.  This last med screen we did on the 13th could possibly be our last med screen until our replacements arrive.  But with that being said, weÕve already laid the groundwork for the Iraqi Army to step in and start doing these missions on their own.  WeÕve already had one IA battalion come to us and say theyÕre ready to do one with out our assistance.  So each day we are making progress, building their defenses, and ultimately coming closer to end of our tour.

As far as last SaturdayÕs mission goes, it was another successful mission.  We were able to coordinate for the medics in all three of the IA battalion we support to come out and participate.  It was a great opportunity for some of the senior IA medics to train and mentor the junior medics.  In just about two and a half hours, they were able to treat 220 local nationals.  As always, the children left with more toys than they could carry.  Thank you to everyone whoÕs sent toys and the like over here for the Iraqi children.  It truly does make a difference in their lives.  But being that we probably only have one med screen left, and not knowing what the role of our replacements might entail, IÕm asking that you please donÕt send any more donations.  I would hate to have toys remaining when I leave and not have an avenue to distribute them.  Your generosity has sustained 12 missions, in which weÕve treated over 2700 patients, and enriched the lives of close to 1500 children.  Your support has been the driving force in the success of these missions.  My thanks to you all!

Beyond the med screens, as a platoon we continue to work closely with the IA medics, helping to enhance their medical capabilities and create lasting programs to maintain their skills.

ItÕs been a long 9+ months and weÕre all eagerly waiting to get home to our family and friends.  I know IÕve got my count down on.  As we say over here to reference our time remaining, we are officially Ôdouble-digit midgets,Õ meaning weÕve got less than a hundred days left.

I hope this email finds you all well.  My best to you all.

Brett
