I write this email to you all with a very heavy heart.  We learned this morning that our deployment to Iraq has been extended indefinitely.  As stated by our Brigade commander, Òthe extension is event driven, not time driven.Ó  There are no official reports yet on where we are going to be operating.  As I continue to receive information on our extended deployment, I will continue to keep you all informed.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

Letter 2

Hey Everyone,

IÕve received so many emails in the last two days that I figured another email was in order.  Thank you all so much for your support of me and the rest of the Brigade.  It definitely helps me feel not so alone in this, even though I knew youÕd all be there for me.  IÕve come to grips with the fact that I wonÕt be home soon, but IÕm still holding out hope that IÕll make it back for my anniversary and my brotherÕs wedding.

As far as things go over here, what you see in the news is pretty much what we know.  In many cases, the media has more current information than we do.  As many of you may have seen/heard, Sec. Rumsfeld stated that the extension was for up to 120 days, but then qualified the statement with Òas long as the troops are needed.Ó  To me it sounded like he was speaking out of both sides of his mouth.  I guess only time will tell.  The talk you hear about us being the best brigade in the Army, being the most capable of rooting out the insurgents, that is all true.  We were selected by the commanding general in Iraq to stay and fight, so weÕll continue on where ever the Army deems fit.  We are the best and you can all take comfort in the fact that IÕm serving along side the best Soldiers in the Army.

Obviously I wonÕt be able to share all the details with you, but IÕll keep you posted as I can.  Just keep watching the news, they seem to have all the information anyway (the NY Times may even draw you a map of where weÕre going).  If or when I get a new mailing address, IÕll pass it on as well.  Thank you all for your love and support and please keep us in your prayers.

Brett
