Hi All,
ItÕs been a while
since my last email, so I hope this one finds you well. As IÕm sure you
can imagine, itÕs starting to heat up over here. The temp today was
pushing 110, but with all the Ōhappy gearÕ on it might as well have been 150.
In Alaska we say anything colder than -20 all feels the same; here anything
over 100 feels the same. Needless to say IÕve done a lot of sweating
today.
TodayÕs med screen was
a little different than what weÕve been doing. We went to a town about 30
minutes from Mosul and set up shop in the town clinic. But unlike
previous med screens, we didnÕt see any patients. It was a fairly large
clinic with a staff of 8 docs and 4 dentists. We brought our standard medications
out along with some other supplies the clinic was running short on, gave all of
it to the chief clinician, and then sat back and let them go about their daily
operations. All we did was hand out toys and take pictures. Towards
the end of the mission a family came in need of wheel chairs. We were
able to get two of their children set up in the chairs to go along with a
promise weÕll bring two more back for their other kids. Some of you may
remember an email I sent out about a website called www.rocwheels.org. They were able to send up around 100
wheelchairs to the Mosul area, providing a much needed service to the
residents.
ThatÕs about it from
this end. The deployment is finally coming to an end and soon enough our
replacements will be on the ground. With any luck, weÕll be flying out of
here in 40 days. WeÕve still got one more med screen to go, but not much
else beyond that. I thank all of you for you love and support and for so
diligently supporting our mission over here. I can safely say that your
donations make all the difference. Talk to you all soon.
Brett
